Willowgrove Farms is a small, locally owned and operated
family farm located in Historic Castle Rock, Colorado. We grow well over
50 different varieties of fruits and vegetables, using an environmentally
friendly and sustainable farming method. All of the crops we grow are distributed
within the southern Denver metro area, via our CSA pickup network.
Our farming method is
unlike any previous form of agriculture: the farmer plants in rows and beds,
tills every month of the year in aisles, tills closely to (sometimes to within
an inch of) plants, tills beds all winter long, seeks greater biodiversity by
bringing domesticated plants and animals into the field, employs both natural
and artificial selection.
This method enjoys
many benefits. It typically has negative erosion rates because of the
great activity of microorganisms and also from the constant green manure crop
(of weeds), is highly water efficient, is easily mechanized and adapted to
large-scale and cereal agriculture, is labor efficient and adapted to small
scale and fruit and vegetable production. It expends less energy because
only planting, tilling and harvesting are required. It successfully
conserves natural habitat without interrupting agricultural operations. In
fact, it relies upon the health of the natural habitat for a successful harvest!
It is "zero impact" agriculture.
Willowgrove Farms
produce tastes better than other produce because as much attention is
given to the varieties grown as to the soil and water conditions that impact
flavor.
